Anglican Priest & Photographer

Hi, I’m Steve & photography is something I’ve loved since being given a camera as a child.

Over the years I’ve worked in agriculture, business management and pastoral ministry as a commissioned military chaplain. Today I work part time for the Guild of Health and I run my  photography business, Seeing the Light in Life. Through my workshops & retreats I share my love of photography and my passion to help others discover its benefits to our spiritual and mental wellbeing. When I’m not photographing I love sailing and fell walking in the Lake District where I grew up.

 My Approach

Relaxed and open my workshops and retreats combine photography with some visual and mindful exercises, opening up the possibility to see in new ways. I’m always happy to offer technical advice, but this is never my focus. Combining my study of psychiatry, photography & theology I aim to help people use their camera to centre in the present moment which has been shown to help reduce stress and anxiety. At the end of the day images are shared and I’ve found this can open new possibilities and build relationships.

Whether you are a complete novice or experienced photographer, you’ll find my workshops & retreats accessible. All you need to join one of my workshops is a digital camera you enjoy using: a smartphone, compact or larger camera.

"I was anxious as I’m a complete novis with the camera. I quickly realised I need not fear, the realization that we receive images rather than take was illuminating. The meditations were very personal and I responded well to them "

"I am far more aware of the beauty of God’s creation. behind what we see in our everyday lives. I now think more about the images I want to receive, take my time and pause for a moment. I see the light in more ways than one! "

"Thanks Steve for an inspiring retreat. I feel I have only just touched the surface and will carry on the good work you have begun, to receive photos as a gift. I shall be referring a lot to the booklet which accompanied the retreat as I reflect on my daily life."
